Lotus Root
Maybe twin beds are made for two
Streets after dark are left for the lost
And every day of the other three seasons are spent
for seeing you again
Maybe we’re like the lotus root
... and punctured with flaws
but maybe lotus roots are destined to be broken
Pacific Ocean won’t part us
nor will these endless chores
or the end of summer
Growing up with you won’t be enough
What I want is to turn calm and old together
The view from middle seats is the best
The things without labels are priceless
And there ought to be water and salt on the hemline of my dress
Maybe we’re meant to get on the same train
And it would end up being fun anyways
But maybe lotus roots are destined to be broken
Pacific Ocean won’t part us
nor will these absent birthdays
or the unfinished duets
Growing up with you won’t be enough
What I want is to turn calm and old together
